I finished this piece this week. I forced myself to stay away from blues as much as possible. I have been in a Blue funk with the last few canvases. Actually, I enjoy blues which are harmonious, but I wanted to avoid them as much as possible this go around.
I think if you look long enough you can see an obvious connection to Mondrian in terms of geometric shapes. There is also some influence of Diebenkorn, with the use of fine lines. I teach criminological and sociological theories and I am fascinated with dissecting out influences in theory development. In some ways maybe that is what I am doing with my painting, merging styles into a “new” synthesis
