This canvas, unencumbered by any pretense, embodies the essence of my proletarian abstract ethos. My colleagues had the foresight to offer me these canvases for repurposing. Liberated from the constraints of tradition and expectation, I approached this throwaway with the freedom to create without inhibition. The unremarkable surface, adorned with staples and lacking a frame, posed a challenge that I embraced with enthusiasm. Layer by layer, I applied shades darker than my usual palette, and was rewarded as the painting began to communicate with me, revealing a profound intellectual satisfaction. I imagine this is the moment that every painter seeks – when the canvas reveals its potential. Though this painting may lack the refined presentation of a Gallery 3 canvas, it carries a raw and authentic energy I don’t think could be replicated.
