This song has been stuck in my head the past two weeks. I picked up the CD at a used record store a couple months ago and have just been letting it play. For whatever reason this one track just sticks with me
“Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too” paints the picture of a passionate, and chaotic encounter. It speaks of desires ran wild and boundaries blurred. The repetitive “Do, do, do, do” and the phrase “Whatever makes you live, Whatever makes you high” evoke a sense of spontaneity and the freedom to be oneself. I believe this is what I find myself continually returning to the song for.
It’s a poetic and abstract expression of the unpredictability of human connections, all set to a lively beat.
Below is the more recognized track that precedes the above track. I think “Someday we’ll know” is absolutely beautiful, and timeless.
The band’s brief yet impactful presence in the music scene during the 1990s serves as a reminder to the power of their lyrics and melodies. I wouldn’t call them a one-hit wonder. They were a one great album wonder.
