Untitled #9 – 48×36

This painting emerged from the depths of my psyche during the dormant season, when the world outside was barren and bleak. As I worked on it, I felt the pull of the coming summer and strove to infuse the canvas with the vibrant hues of that season. The landscape of this abstract piece draws the viewer into an escape, a place of warm sunsets and sandy beaches.

Blue, as always, forms the foundation of this work. It is a color that speaks to me on a deep level, a subconscious reminder of the ocean I once lived near and the tranquility it brought me. A recent study out of Michigan State has shown that gazing at the sea can have a calming effect on the mind, but for me, painting is the ultimate therapy. It is through the act of creation that I find my solace and my escape. My way to transcend the harsh realities of the world and find beauty in even the most desolate of seasons.
