“No Kings” Protests Set to Sweep US Even as Trump Increases Attacks on Activists

Earlier this week, I was quoted in a Truthout (a not-for-profit news organization) for article examining the upcoming “No Kings” protests and the political framing around so-called antifa activity. You can read it here:

In my comments, I tried to draw attention to how political actors use labels to shape the public imagination long before an event even happens.
The word “antifa” isn’t being used to describe a group, it’s being deployed as a narrative tool. It collapses a wide range of dissent and protest into a single, threatening symbol. Once that symbol is fixed in the public mind, it can justify surveillance, crackdowns, and fear.

From a sociological standpoint, this isn’t about one protest or one politician. It’s about the ongoing struggle over meaning, who defines it, who distributes it, and whose voices get silenced along the way.
