Thanks to Upworthy for including my insight for a piece highlighting what all generations share despite the constant narrative that each new cohort is “doomed.”
I noted how generations are shaped by the cultural forces of their formative years, and how shifts in music, art, politics, and language can make older groups feel as if the world has moved on without them. These tensions aren’t failures, but signs of cultural evolution.
For my fellow Gen X Nation we’ve lived through analog-to-digital transformation, economic turbulence, and major cultural pivots. Our perspective on change is uniquely balanced between the world we grew up in and the one we adapted to. We should value cultural evolution, not fear it. Rather than see generational upheaval as loss, we can view it as creative renewal, even when it’s uncomfortable. You can read the article here Boomers, Gen X, millennials & Gen Z all have this in common: Society said they were doomed.
